If so then please keep reading...
Celignis is a pioneering SME that was spun-out from state-of-the art research. Since its launch, Celignis has rapidly grown to
be the leading provider of compositional analysis services and bioprocess expertise to stakeholders in the bioeconomy.
Over that period we have taken the time to carefully recruit people that not only share our work ethic and
ambition but also bring additional areas of expertise, allowing Celignis to grow and expand in new exciting markets.
Since 2020 Celignis has also been offering Bioprocess Development Services (BDS) to our clients. In these we work with our customers on
their technologies and goals and determine how their processes can be improved in terms of cost, yield, and products.
This can involve refining an existing process or developing an entirely bespoke process based on a starting feedstock and a targeted product.
To date we have provided BDS to a wide and diverse portfolio of clients, ranging from start-ups to large multinationals.
These are often high-impact, commercially-driven, projects that are undertaken with the ultimate target
being commercial demonstration of the new or improved technologies.
In addition to our bioprocess services for clients, Celignis is also involved in several highly prestigious multinational collaborative research projects, funded by the
European Union’s Horizon Europe scheme. This includes several projects funded by the Circular Bioeconomy Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU), of whose steering committee (the
Biobased Industries Consortium, BIC) Celignis is a Full Industry member.
In 2022 Celignis expanded its operations to include a new site, termed Celignis Bioprocess, focused on the expansion of our BDS and on increasing the scale and
technology readiness levels (TRLs) of our facilities up to TRL6.
A particular focus of our BDS and our RD&D work is on the development of improved bioprocesses involving enzymes and
fermentation, building on the expertise of our Chief Innovation Officer Lalitha, winner of 2 awards, including 'Innovation of the Year',
at the Irish Laboratory Awards. We are now looking to expand our bioprocess team with a specialist that has the capacity and drive to lead privately and
publicly funded bioprocess projects, not only in terms of developing the methods and operating our bioreactors, but also in the development of ideas for how processes
can be improved.
Requirements
This will be a challenging but highly rewarding role. The chosen candidate should be motivated to not only achieve outstanding results in the lab
but also to interact in a positive and proactive manner with our clients, putting forward astute and innovative ideas, as
we work with them on enhancing their bioprocess.
At Celignis no-one works on their own, we are a team working together with unique strengths and skillsets to make a real difference in the
world. We are looking for someone brimming with ideas and strategies for developing our BDS in new markets and with the confidence and
communication skills to ensure that those ideas are heard both inside and outside the company. Engagement with parties that could fund the
development of these innovations will be a key part of the role and you should be an effective communicator that shows to the world the
dynamism and passion at Celignis.
Experience in working in industry would be a bonus but is not a strict requirement. Ideally the recruit should have:
PhD or Research Masters with industry experience in Microbiology, Chemical Engineering,
Biochemical Engineering, Fermentation, or related engineering or life science discipline.
Experience in fermentations, bioreactor operations and troubleshooting, mass transfer
and scale-up analysis, as well as strain selection, production, and formulation.
Expertise in desk-based process design and analysis, particularly in DOE
(design of experiments), statistical analysis and modelling, process mass balances and carbon balances and PFDs (process flow diagrams).
Understanding of implications of process variations on CAPEX and OPEX and to
optimise the process taking economics in to account. The candidate does not need to do techno-economic analysis (TEA) but needs an
understanding of it and should be able to work with a techno-economic analyst and provide data in the required format.
Ability to take lead role in projects and to draw on your technical knowledge
& experience to identify, troubleshoot, and assist with the resolution of technical and process problems to meet the internal and external deliverables on time.
Ability to plan the project and write the proposal with information provided
by the client or from the public funding call document.
Quick thinking and good communication skills.
Eagerness to learn and execute new areas of expertise as and when required and take on projects outside your comfort zone.
And lastly, someone who can share the entrepreneurial drive and vision of the Celignis team and can proactively work with us in getting there would be a perfect fit.
Benefits
If you take up this position you will part of a fantastic team of ambitious passionate individuals,
comprising diversity of opinion, qualifications, and disciplines including: business development,
analytical chemistry, bio-processing, electrical engineering, and chemometrics. Our management structure
at Celignis is supportive and everyone has a voice in the development of the company.
You will also benefit from our wide global network of clients and collaborators and the opportunities to travel and directly interact with our wide portfolio of contacts in our private and publicly funded projects.

will be able to say, years from now, that you played a key role in making the shared
