Celignis is a pioneering SME that was spun-out from state-of-the art research. Since its launch, Celignis has rapidly grown to be the leading provider of compositional analysis services to stakeholders in the bioeconomy. Over that period we have taken the time to carefully recruit people that not only share our work ethic and ambition but also bring additional areas of expertise, allowing Celignis to grow and expand in new exciting markets.

We are now expanding our portfolio to our clients to include Bioprocess Development Servives (BDS). In these we work with our customers on their technologies and goals and determine how their processes can be improved in terms of cost, yield, and products. This can involve refining an existing process or developing an entirely bespoke process based on a starting feedstock and a targeted product.

A particular focus for the BDS will be on the development of improved bioprocesses involving enzymes and fermentation, building on the expertise of our Chief Innovation Officer Lalitha. We are now looking to expand our bioprocess team with a specialist that has the capacity and drive to lead BDS projects, not only in terms of developing the laboratory methods and operating our bioreactors, but also in the development of ideas for how processes can be improved.

Requirements

This will be a challenging but highly rewarding role. The chosen candidate should be motivated to not only achieve achieve outstanding results in the lab but also to interact in a positive and proactive manner with our clients, putting forward astutue and innovative ideas, as we work with them on enhancing their bioprocess.

Celignis is also active in a number of ongoing and soon to start collaborative research projects funded by the EU's BioBased Industries Joint Undertaking and Horizon 2020 programmes. Our new team member will play important roles in these projects with regards to the development of innovative bioprocesses, keeping in mind the projects' requirements for deliverables, interaction with partners, and reporting. At Celignis no-one works on their own, we are a team working together to make a real difference in the world. We are looking for someone brimming with ideas and strategies for developing our BDS in new markets and with the confidence and communication skills to ensure that those ideas are heard both inside and outside the company. Engagement with parties that could fund the development of these innovations will be a key part of the role and you should be an effective communicator that shows to the world the dynamism and passion at Celignis.

Experience in working in industry would be a bonus but is not a strict requirement. Ideally the recruit should have a Master's Degree/PhD in Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Fermentation, or related engineering or life science discipline. The recruit should understand the set-up, lab operation and fundamentals of fermentation production as well as strain selection, production, and formulation. There should be experience in the running, maintaining and troubleshooting of bench-scale microbial fermenters.

You should also not be afraid of taking a leading role in projects and to draw on your technical knowledge & experience to identify, troubleshoot, and assist with the resolution of process problems.

Someone who shares the entrepreneurial drive and vision of the Celignis team and can proactively work with us in getting there would be a perfect fit.
