Are you enthused by the wonderous mystery of biomass, eager for the role of biomass detective to find high-value chemical constituents in an array of different feedstocks?

Will you help us to make Limerick, part of the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, a globally-recognised hub of innovation in the bioeconomy?

If so then please keep reading…..

Celignis is a pioneering SME that was spun-out from state-of-the art research undertaken by its founder and CEO Daniel Hayes. Since its launch, Celignis has rapidly grown to be the leading provider of compositional analysis services to stakeholders in the bioeconomy. Over that period we have taken the time to carefully recruit people that not only share the work ethic and ambition of its founder but also bring additional areas of expertise, allowing Celignis to grow and expand in new exciting markets.

We recognise that, while the focus in the past may have been on biofuels, now businesses increasingly understand that the more profitable and sustainable approach would be to fully utilise the unique chemistry of biomass to obtain a wide variety of niche, high-value, chemicals. One such example is the extraction of CBD from hemp, which is a multi-billion euro/dollar industry, experiencing rapid annual growth. There is still a huge untapped resource of other high-value chemicals that can be obtained from biomass.

Celignis has recently undergone a significant expansion in terms of our analytical capabilties and now have an array of advanced equipment for the detailed profiling of biomass and the products of biomass conversion. This equipment includes: HPLC-MS-QTOF (Agilent iFunnel 6550), GCMS (3 systems), ion chromatography (HPAEC-PAD, 3 systems; conductivity detection, 2 systems), HPLC-DAD (3 systems), HPLC-FLD, ICP-OES, etc.

As a result we are looking for a high calibre person to manage and grow our chromatography lab. This will involve the development of new analytical methods and the supervision/validation of existing methods. A key part of the job will be to effectively use our QTOF system for profiling biomass feedstocks to find high-value constituents, to be a Celignis Biomass Detective! We envisage this being a key component in the future growth of the company.

Requirements

This will be a challenging but highly rewarding role. The chosen candidate should be motivated to not only pursue the current goals laid out in Celignis’s latest business plan but to also be pro-active and ambitious in putting forward new ideas and strategies that will enable the company to significantly enhance its market presence.

At Celignis no-one works on their own, we are a team working together to make a real difference in the world. We are looking for someone brimming with ideas and strategies for advancing our analytical and biomass profiling activities and with the confidence and communication skills to ensure that those ideas are heard both inside and outside the company.

Hands-on experience in chromatography equipment and method development is key. In particular, experience in QTOF and MS equipment would be a major plus.

Above everything, we are looking for energy, enthusiasm, and dynamism to accelerate this Irish-based company to be a globally-recognised name. We are looking for someone that leads by example and whose activities will be an inspiration for existing and future employees.

Given that we have global ambitions, we are looking to bring in strong expertise from persons that have recently spent time in countries other than Ireland. Due to work permit issues it is a requirement that the person be from either an EU country, the UK, or countries in the EEA.

The initial contract for this position will be for 9 months. There is huge potential for the position to be extended for longer based the performance of the candidate and the success of the detective work during that period.

Benefits

If you take up this position you will part of a fantastic team of eleven, adding your unique talents to a group experienced in many disciplines, including: business development, analytical chemistry, bio-processing, and chemometrics. Our management structure at Celignis is flat and everyone has a voice in the development of the company.

You will also benefit from our wide global network of clients and collaborators. For example, we are currently active in a number of high-level research projects funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, collaborating with some of the best organisations and brightest minds in Europe.

The position has an attractive salary of 69.5k Euros per annum and we have also designed a detailed training program covering an on-boarding process to make you feel at home with us. We have also allocated relocation funds to get you settled in Limerick.
