Would you like to play a pivotal role in the development of a company which, although currently small, is bursting at the seams with ambition and ideas for further growth?
Are you ready to be an integral part of a team, comprising talented hard-working people, with a set of common goals and dreams for the future?
Do you have what is required to spearhead Celignis’s expansion into new markets and territories?
Will you take the innovative products and processes that we are developing and refine them into commercial offerings, clearly targeted at our key target markets, with the aim of
developing significant increases in Celignis’s revenue in both the short and long term?
Will you help us to make Limerick, part of the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, a globally-recognised hub of innovation in the bioeconomy?
If so then please keep reading…..
Celignis is a pioneering SME that was spun-out from state-of-the art research undertaken by its founder and CEO Daniel Hayes.
Since its launch, Celignis has rapidly grown to be the leading provider of compositional analysis services to stakeholders
in the bioeconomy. Over that period we have taken the time to carefully recruit people that not only share the work ethic and
ambition of its founder but also bring additional areas of expertise, allowing Celignis to grow and expand in new exciting markets.
As a result of our hard work we are now in a strong position to move beyond being solely an analytical laboratory so that we can accelerate our growth and meet our business objectives. We are
pursuing a number of strategies to achieve these goals. The first will involve us making use of the multidisciplinary expertise of our existing team by offering
comprehensive bioprocess development services to bioeconomy stakeholders. The second concerns a concerted effort to increase our sales and presence in the US market, through
targeting a number of key markets of near-term growth potential. The third approach focuses on in-house development of IP related to the processing of biomass/waste and
the production of high-value biobased chemicals and products.
The person recruited for this position will play a vital role in this strategic global expansion of Celignis.
Requirements
This will be a challenging but highly rewarding role. The chosen candidate should be motivated to not only pursue the current goals laid out in Celignis’s latest
business plan but to also be pro-active and ambitious in putting forward new ideas and strategies that will enable the company to significantly enhance its market presence.
At Celignis no-one works on their own, we are a team working together to make a real difference in the world. We are looking for someone brimming with ideas and strategies for
securing growth in new markets and with the confidence and communication skills to ensure that those ideas are heard both inside and outside the company. Engagement with
parties that could fund the development of our offerings and innovations will be a key part of the role and you should be an effective communicator that shows to the world the dynamism and
passion at Celignis.
Experience in starting or running a business would be fantastic, as that will show you understand and embrace the challenges in facilitating growth,
but any experience in establishing and seeing-through a task with clear commercial relevance
will be of great benefit to your application. A proven track-record in securing funds would also help.
We are not looking for a lab worker, we have plenty of highly-skilled persons already in that role. However, you should have a broad and
deep understanding of the biomass/biofuels/biorefining landscape and, in particular, the commercial developments and actors in that sector. The
role will involve a lot of travelling, to exhibitions and for one-to-one meetings with important future clients, with a particular focus on
trips to the US, so ideally you shouldn’t be a nervous flyer!
Above everything, we are looking for energy, enthusiasm, and dynamism to accelerate this Irish-based company to be a globally-recognised name
in sectors other than biomass analysis. We are looking for someone that leads by example and whose activities will
be an inspiration for existing and future employees.
Given that we have global ambitions, we are looking to bring in strong expertise from persons that have recently spent time in countries other than Ireland.
The initial contract for our Chief Strategy Officer will be for one year. There is huge potential for the position to be extended for longer based on Celignis’s global
expansion over that year and the performance of the candidate.
Benefits
If you take up this position you will part of a fantastic team of nine, adding your unique talents to a group experienced in many disciplines,
including: business development, analytical chemistry, bio-processing, and chemometrics. Our management structure at Celignis is flat and everyone
has a voice in the development of the company.
You will also benefit from our wide global network of clients and collaborators. For example, we are currently active in a number of high-level
research projects funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, collaborating with some of the best organisations and brightest minds in Europe.
The position has an attractive salary and we have also designed a detailed training program covering an on-boarding process
to make you feel at home with us, along with top-level external training that is particularly focused on the IP development side of Celignis.
We have also allocated relocation funds to get you settled in Limerick.
Most important of all, you will be a key driver in the strategic development of this passionate and ambitious company and will be able to say, years from now, that you played a key role
in making the shared dream of the Celignis team a reality.

An introductory video to the EnXylaScope project (funded by Horizon Europe and technically led by Celignis) has been released. It has been prepared by our fellow consortium partner Loba and details the rationale for the project and the technical advances that the project will make, leading to an efficient and commercially-viable process for the extraction of xylan and its modification so that it can be incorporated into a range of consumer products.
