The ash flow temperature is an important property of
ash melting behaviour . It is defined as the temperature at which the ash is spread out over the supporting tile in a layer, the height of which is half of the test ash piece at the
hemisphere temperature .
This property is determined in a
reducing atmosphere using a carbon
monoxide/carbon dioxide gas mix or a hydrogen and carbon dioxide gas mix. This characteristic temperature can also be
determined in an
oxidising atmosphere , using air or carbon dioxide, using analysis package
P41 - Ash Melting Behaviour (Oxidising Conditions) .
