    Valine

Valine (2-Amino-3-methylbutanoic acid) is a non-polar, alpha-amino acid. It is a branched-chain amino acid with an isopropyl side chain.

It is one of the essential amino acids for humans. Regulation of metabolic processes including glucose metabolism, iron metabolism and protein synthesis are linked with valine. Branched-chain amino acids- leucine, isoleucine and valine are used as ergogenic aids as they benefit muscle growth and boost the performance of athletes.

Valine is a regulator of plant growth. Hence, valine treatment could be helpful to inhibit the growth of plant saplings and improve fruit quality.

Brevibacterium lactofermentum is used for the industrial level production of valine.

Fortification of animal feed with valine is vital to meet the amino acid requirement of farm animals.

Edible red alga, Palmaria palmata contain valine and other essential amino acids at significant levels.
